Upgrading from 560 to 970

Due to a bit of luck on the Grand National yesterday, I'm looking at upgrading my ageing GTX560 (non Ti version).

I don't play many games, but the two main ones I do are World of Tanks and Eve Online.

I don't think either of them are particularly harsh on the GPU so don't need to go right to the top with a 980.

I currently run WoT with nearly all settings on Max, and can get around 30-35 fps. (1920x1080)

Obviously the fps will increase, but will an upgrade to 970 improve the look of the graphics? I've seen a lot of YouTube videos of these games, especially WoT and they just look nicer, it's hard to pinpoint but the overall quality just looks much better than what I see even though I'm close to max settings.

I think it is time for an upgrade but don't want to spend £300 on a new card just for the increase in fps. Does the newer hardware render the screens more realistically?

Eve is not really an issue, but with the arrival of the HD textures in the near future even this oldie MMORPG may need something better than my 560.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

I thought I had a problem with my monitor so tried it on the TV. The TV only had an hdmi slot so had to use that as I was using one of the older ones only PC either via or dvi can't remember. Didn't actually have a problem that I could diagnose anyway. Found same thing on my new monitor as well. Problem was gone when I used HDMI.

The difference in quality when using the hdmi was immense. I now use HDMI on my new monitor and that looks far better.

im not sure their would be a difference if you use the same settings when gettin g a new GPU. You may notice the game feels smoother (fps increase). But it should look similar.

I'd try using a hdmi cable of you can. Such a huge difference for me.

I'm already using DVI-D on the connection so going to HDMI wont get me any better picture quality.

I actually have three monitors, but only use one for gaming. 2 are connected to the GTX 560 and the third is connected to the on-board Intel GPU (if you can call it that!).

But thanks for the info. I'm not expecting the jump in quality from the old days of switching from 75ohm RF to SCART on video, but would expect the new cards to render better and do better AA, and not just be faster.
