Hi, i currently have a single 8800GTX and am looking to upgrade. I have a quad core, 4Gb RAM, Vista 64 system (haven't got specific details as i am currently in Afghanistan). I'm coming home in 2 weeks and i have Arma2 and OFP: DR waiting for me but I'd also like a shiny new card to be waiting for me aswell!
Price isn't really an issue as i've managed to save some money from being out here all summer. I'm looking for the card to be able to cope with new releases for a year or two. My motherboard has dual PCI-e slots so SLI is an option.

Thanks in advance.

I'd personally go for a 5850 as it's almost as good ~90% of the 5870 but a lot cheaper.
Also only slightly bigger than the 8800 0.5-1 inch bigger so shouldn't have any issues with getting it in the case.

I have a system comparable to yours and i upgraded from 8800gtx to 5850. It has doubled my performance in most situations, i wanted to go for 5870 at first but the notion of getting a new case just to fit the card in made me get the 5850 instead. So far it has really impressed me.

i think you should wait for the 5800 to arrive

You been in a coma, been out a few weeks now :p

why ATI and not nvidia?

As Nvidia are out of it now, they don't have any cards to buy (as they are still old tech, and can't compete with ATi's new) so are pulling them all out.

Id agree on the 5870 if the price is no issue, new tech, Dx11 single card thats on par with Nvidia's top card the 2x card 295 GTX, and once it starts getting drivers (as they only got beta's at present due to just being released), its going to get even better.

sorry to hijack this thread,

but i'm in pretty much the same position aalindo, in having a quad core cpu with 8800 GTX and the gfx card is dead.. blues screens on windows load up and getting loads of artifacts before blue screen

Would you rate this card as sadly my budget doesn't really stretch to 200 quid+

Tbh unless you're desperate for DX11 support, I would say that you're be better off saving money and going for a 4870 or stretching a bit higher and going for a 4890.

Thanks for the replies, definately some food for thought there. As an aside, my monitor is 1680 x 1050 native. Does this make much of a difference in terms of which GFX card i should be looking at as i don't plan on getting a new/bigger screen?
