Hi all I need some advice. I currently have the rig in my signature except that the GFX card is a 7950. I am looking to upgrade to a dual core system. I won't be overclocking for a while and I am looking at either of the following chips with 2 Gb Ram:

AMD x2 5600+ AM2
Intel C2D E6600 conroe

My main use is for Games and also photoshop/encoding and web site design as well as internet surfing, but mostly games. Will I be right from what I have read that the Conroe is the faster for gamimg than the 5600+. Also will I see a improvement over my current system. Thanks.

Anthony

The Conroe is the best chip to go for. Faster than the Athlon in pretty much everything, and it will overclock very well too.

You'll see a decent improvement in games, but the big improvement will be in encoding and video/image editing.

Yea i upgraded last week from an athy 64 939 3700+ / to an E6600. Gotta say theres been a huge boost in speed. I have also previously had a athy 64 4400+ x2 around 6 months ago which i downgraded to a 3700+ (simply because i didnt need it at the time and needed the cash difference). Much more impressed with the E6600 than i was with the 4400+ x2 , nevermind the 3700+ and if your moving from a 3200+ it should be nice :)

E6600 all the way ;) Even though you say you won't overclock, it would be a crime not to knock it up to at least 3Ghz. All you have to do is run the fsb at 1333mhz, and most motherboards officially support this anyway. You've then got a sub £200 X6800 :D
