Upgrading from a 670 2GB

I would definitely get the 1070 over a 980ti if it was 30 quid in it.

if it was a manufacturer that you typically go with I would too but personally because I'm an EVGA or Asus person I'd go with the Ti because if I was spending £388 my attitude would then be might as well spend the extra £30 and get a model I would prefer by then you've spent around £60-£70 more than you would on a Ti just my twocents :)

Wow Many thanks for the effort you didn't have to!
Do you think I could get away with a 850w PSU for the 980ti

you're more than welcome! at 1080p this card will chew through pretty much anything and the prices are only going to get lower in which case depending on what 850watt psu you have you could always go sli for a cheap route or wait a few years and see what is out then :)

Just been reading up the reviews for EVGA GeForce GTX 980Ti Superclocked+ and it is looking like a potential buy for me, at £360 quid seems like that should be the one for me.
The missus wouldn't be exactly happy knowing I've spent over £400 on a GPU

At 1080p, I wouldn't get anything better than 480/390 from AMD or 1060/970 from Nvidia. The next Battlefield runs at 60-90 fps on those cards on ultra details.

Like I said matey download afterburner, set a custom fan profile I've done mine so the fan speed matches the temps, and overclock, if you buy the sc version you could probably get another 100mhz out of it at least :) what I do start up a game run the card stock and see what it boosts to, then you know how much to add to get to 1400mhz :) as I'm guessing you'd want the card to last I keep it at that personally and you can always give the memory a little bump too :)

Mainly for Battlefield at 1080p, I think the 480 would be the best choice considering the game supports DX12.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a AIB 480 just behind the 980ti/1070 in DX12, did you see those DOOM gains in Vulkan?

DX12 isn't mainstream yet, neither is vulkan, the amount of horsepower the Ti has against the rx480 will be more beneficial for games that don't support it :)

I haven't tried overclocking anything - even though I've got a i7 k...
Just something that I never bothered with really, I wouldn't know where to start hahaha

For me, branding isn't what it once was. Aside from installing the card, I barely ever see my GPU until it's time to clean the case out abit as my case is under my desk. Given that all the 10xx series perform very close to each other both in max clock and in noise and temps of the decently cooled aftermarket cards, there really isn't much in it when choosing between them. I'd happily spend the £30 extra to get the 10xx benefits, especially as my superflower psu has the fanless mode, if I can game heavily and have it not spin up at all due to not reaching the required load and temp to do so, that's a great bonus as it does add a decent amount of noise when it's on "auto" mode :)

Here's an interesting video comparing a overclocked 980 Ti vs a bone stock 1080 as you can see it's within spitting distance :)

youtube is your best friend plenty of tutorials on there, the 980 Ti loves to be overclocked, and you get free performance as well (y) :) I'll make a tutorial tomorrow for you if you like, off to the girlfriends now if you buy now I think you'll get it tomorrow! massive upgrade over the 670 you have

I probably will go with the 980Ti then!
Will have to wait till payday and spend the money I was prepared to shell out on the 1070 on a new heatsink and get involved in overclocking my i7 2700k. Cheers Tommy!

No way I'd pay £350 for a 980ti when £50 more gets you the newer gen 1070. If you can pick up a 980ti for under £300 second hand then it is worth considering though.
