Hi I am considering to upgrade my 15+ year old graphics card... yes I know this card I'm using is proper old school and the only part lagging the rest of the PC is fine.

Totally out of touch with the gaming scene, but looking to get back into it.

I Could budget up to £200-£300 for a new card, are there any hints or tips on what to look for? Thanks

Yes, there's nothing wrong with that kind of setup. Assuming your PSU is decent/not ancient, I'd probably look at something like an RX6600/6600XT/6650XT. These GPUs will handle 1080p and some 1440p gaming well.

thanks the old PSU died, i got about 15 years from it though

I think my current one is 650W but they don't make 'em like they used to
much lower quality and it is a cossair PSU

I will add a couple of camelcamelcamels because when I built this system none was able to get hold of any graphic cards
but looks like things have changed.

£250 puts you in for the first tier of 'proper' gaming cards, like the A750 or RX 6600. Both cards are good for 1080p, but A750 loses less performance at higher resolutions. If you play a lot of old games (which I'm guessing you do), the AMD is likely to be the better option for now, due to the compatibility & performance issues with Intel's drivers on DX10 (and earlier) games.

£300 gets a bump to a RX 6650 XT. The next tier is around £350 - £400 (RX 6700 non-XT / XT, A770 16GB, 3060 Ti), which are all entry 1440p cards. If you can stretch to a 6700 non-XT / XT and plan to keep the card awhile (e.g. 3+ years), I think it would be worthwhile to have the extra performance and VRAM (and a bigger bus, with 3x the L3 cache, versus the 6600).

Put a cheeky offer in for £300 and you might get it.

Either ring or via webticket.

thanks that looks like a decent price tbh

but im going to need some adapters because my monitors are prob not HDMI I will need to double check

so if I ring OCUK I can submit an offer? never knew that and what is a webticket

webticket is the way you contact OCUK on their website.

there is a massive link about the clearance offers here..

Is there like a new brand or range of graphics cards releasing soon? Just thinking it might push some of them cards mentioned right down

Nope, no new generation of cards. Just the lower stack of the current generation of Nvidia 40 series and AMD 7000 series.
