So after two years being tethered to Orange and my Blackberry Curve 8520 my contract will soon come to an end.

I've been researching my upgrade options - mostly via CW - and have whittled my options down to the following:

  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Desire HD
  • LG Optimus 2x
  • Apple iPhone 3GS
  • Blackberry 9300 (the one with the touch screen and the QWERTY keyboard)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you provide a realistic working framework eg "I use no more than 300 minutes / month and hardly text but want data. My current contract costs X and gives me Y" it would be more helpful. This is because upgrades tend to be hilariously bad for the consumer and a massive boon to the networks.

Of that lot, the Sensation is probably the best.

Cheers. Having looked at my last few bills, I seem to average ~100 minutes per month. Three texts. This is due to the fact that 95% of my usage is through data and BBMs, with the occasional overseas call to family. I'm currently on a plan for twenty five per month.

Thanks for all the help so far, everyone.

Yes, in fact I did mean the upcoming 9800 with touch screen and QWERTY keyboard.

The reason I have mainly been using BBM is that (a) my girlfriend also has it, and (b) a number of, but not all, my friends do as well. Hence why my actual texts are so low.

Having looked into the Samsung Galaxy II, I think it's at the top of my list. I love the design, the specs, and every review I have read so far has been glowingly positive.

The girlfriend is going for an iPhone 3GS so Blackberry seems to be out. Although I loved the phone, the software, and the security I'm not sure I really need it. My job isn't exactly "sensitive" in nature.

I would like to add that I am hoping for GPS capability (Google Maps for when I'm lost), 3G connectivity (which I assume they all have now), and a well-built drop-proof build. Got my hands on a Samsung Galaxy II last night and it felt pretty sturdy.

I would also like to stick with Orange, as they offer a decent mobile + internet package (now that I've liberated myself from the clutches of BT).
