Had my Google Nexus 4 for almost 3 years now, and I fancy an upgrade. The phone has been pretty much faultless, but now it's starting to show it's age. Battery doesn't last long at all, and takes long to recharge, also the usb cable needs to be at a certain angle to charge it too!

The only thing that's ever annoyed me about the 4 was the camera, it is awful to be polite.

I'm wanting to spend around £200, probably £300 at the absolute max. I've got a SIM only contract so don't want any plans unless they are outstanding deals.

So what's the best android out there for the money?

Hmm initial specs don't look that good the for Nexus 5 refresh

Had a look at the specs for the Moto X play and they look pretty decent. Anything else to consider.

I would probably miss the stock android experience with the Nexus though.

I'm in the exact same position as you ATM, have just replaced the battery on my N4 though to get me through.

My options are

New nexus 5
Xiaomi mi4c (if I fancy trying cheaper Chinese phone)
Wait for the one plus 2 min, if it happens by the end of the year.

The xiaomi looks quite good but it doesn't have NFC and of course the warranty/support is abit of a worry .

I'm still rocking my Nexus 4 too, had it nearly 3 years. My battery isn't too bad but I work from home so it's not much of a problem.

Have you considered a Sony Z series compact? I was going to get a Z3 compact but now the Z5 is out/soon to be out I'm going to wait to see if prices drop.

Dropped my N4 the other day and smashed it :( Ive ordered a G4 off amazon wharehouse for £300. The camera and screen looks great on it. that coupled with replaceable battery, SD slot and price has swayed me.

Just upgraded from a Nexus 4 to a Chinese Umi Iron. I had been waiting for the new Nexus 5 but the rumoured specs weren't that impressive for the price, plus I really fancied the option of removable storage.
The OnePlus phones looked appealing but again aren't hugely cheap, so I took the gamble with the Iron. Very impressed so far, enjoying stock Android as always and the specs are great for the price. Only downside is the size of it, but I've mostly got used to it now. Just takes up more space in my pocket :p

id honestly say spend a bit more and get a nexus 5 2015 or get a moto g. if you can find a sony in your budget then that would be best, its very close to stock android and you get premium features
