upgrading from a x1900xt, worth it with current cpu?

im after some advice about buying a 4870 basically, as im a little concerned my dual core 4200+ at stock speeds will limit the gfx card?
would i be better off upgrading the rest of my machine instead or would the new gfx card work ok with what i have currently?

i decided to go with a 3870 in the end and maybe look forward to upgrading in the future with cpu/mob and ram etc also.
just installing now, hope its an ok upgrade :p
