Morning, gentlemen.

In a few days' time I'll be moving onwards from the trusty x1950pro that has served me so well for a couple of years. With The Witcher EE, Silent Hill 5 and Tomb Raider Underworld coming out it would be daft not to.

I have a 22" monitor and a budget of £180 for the card. What's the best for the money?

Also, my PSU is only 400W. Would I need to upgrade this?

If the psu is a no name generic one with lower amperage on the 12v rails than the better ones sold here, I'd say a 4850 and a good name 500w+ psu. If you can strectch a bit further, the a 4870 instead of the 4850.:)
What make is the psu btw?

Hmmm ok. What would be a good 3rd party cooler for it since they run rather hot, don't they?

Would I need to upgrade the 400W PSU?

you shouldn't need to upgrade the PSU - A branded 400W psu is much better than some no-name £20 650W carp.

Whilst 400W is fairly low, I'm powering a ton o' stuff, and still using a 480W thermaltake, iirc.

Just get the 4850, and spend the rest on t'booze!

Nope just do the fan speed mod (a simple tweak in the cfg files) and set it to run at 45% all the time. Its barely audible but knocks nearly 20 degrees off the idle temps (Load also comes down but not as much).

The psu should be fine.

Lysander,
Are you selling your 1950Pro?

I'd take it off your hands, could mod it to a FireGl card (Which im unable to so with my HD2900)

Sure, you could have it for £50 + postage if you like. Don't have original box though. It was purchased December 2006.
