Hi,
I currently have the rig in my sig, and came to the conclusion to upgrade my Graphics card before the memory.
My current doesn't have SM3, does this make a difference.
Im looking at spending tops of £250. Id rather about £200.
I play COD2 a lot and Quake4, I'm mostly future proofing. The current card can handle COD2 with 2xAA 1024x768 about 60Fps, which isn't too great but its ok. It ssometimes dips to about 30Fps. Thats just an example from one game. Id like to be able to bump it up a lot. Especially the Anti-Aliasing.
Cheers.

It's a bit much, I'll look into it.
Is their going to be a major performance increase?
I don't feel my CPU will hold it back, it got 1005 CPU points in the 3dMark06 test which is quite high for single core.
And what does SM3 do? Is it essential?
Is their any cheaper options or will they be no different?

Thanks again.

MC_Bob

SM3.0 isn't essential, but it does enable some nice effects, most noticably HDR.

The difference between those cards will be night and day, definitely worth the upgrade if you're willing to spend that much.

The 7800GT is a bit cheaper if you want to stick closer to £200 (£205), but IMO it's worth the extra.

Ok thanks, I'll have to fine out how much I can get for my current card.
Who should I contact about rewuesting access to the members market?
Thanks.

MC_Bob

You should have access at the moment?

You've got >250 posts and have trust enabled, so unless you've been banned in the past you should have access.

Exactly it, I don't want to get into detail but I thought it was only for a week or so. I posted an item on the market which I said I didn't have at the moment but I would in a week.
That was it.
Who can I contact to get this back?
Thanks a lot

email a don very very nicely

either x1800xt or maybe if you fancy some vmod fun 7900gt

I'd stick with your current card.

CoD 2 is running slowly because you need to force DX7 rendering. Then you will never see below 60fps ;)

Even 7800GT's struggle running in DX9.

Just my opinion anyway. :)

Thanks.
Ok, I stuck it on DX9 since I like the look and the better quality image.
Ill see what the difference is on DX7.
I was wondering if I would be going over the top with a x1800. I think I may wait and look around.

MC_Bob

Ok, now it's on DX7 and an extra 40FPS.
But still, I don't like the crappy textures and fps still dips at parts which is annoying. I tried looking at the HDD light it doesn't seem to be paging to disk.
Any help?
Are there any patches?

You can get a Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT for only £195inc http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_This_Week_Only_25.html and it will chew through COD2 at 1280*1024 with AA/AF. Great for oblivion too. :)

The 7900's are also a great buy but at £240 are a bit steep imo, you can get them for £200 in other stores but stock is pretty much non-existant.

Personally i'd hold on till later this month or so for the X1900XL... they are going to be great price/performance cards when they're released and likely faster than the X180)XT's. :)

Ok thanks.
Now just another suggestion lol, Xfiring my current card.
It's crossfire ready it needs a master card?
I want to get shot of my motherboard anyway.

MC_Bob

Ok sure.
I looked into it and doesn't look too exciting imo.
But does anyone know what I should do to stop the frame rate dipping?
