system is an E8400 @ 3.6ghz, 4gb ram, windows xp, monitor is 1920 1200

what is the creme de la creme just now ?, would this option be viable for my current CPU/OS ? I would need windows 7 for DX11 games ? (Dirt2 will be a game I play a LOT when it's out, and have read it is DX11)


is it worth waiting, is there new cards coming out soon that will be AMAZING?

I would upgrade to windows 7 64 home asap really, as xp 32 cannot see all your ram (and xp 64 bit was always slow iirc).

I would get a 5850, they are not much slower than a 5870 and much cheaper.

EDIT: The rig in my sig plays the new modern warfare full HD with AA extremely well and any other game I have tried. However a 4890 is now last gen so I would still go for the 5850.
 
I would aviod the 5850 its overprived and consider geting 5770 in crossfire if your motherboard allows.
