Hi Folks
I,m looking to upgrade the graphics of a budget gaming pc that I build for my kid
Most of the games he plays run well but he,s recently got an oculus rift s of which the gtx 970 just meets the minimum requirements.

so the gpu need to be able run the rift s reasonably well
play games at 1080p
not bottleneck my pc
cost around £300

here,s what we've got
1080p resolution monitor
i5 7600k overclocked
2x16 corsair vengance ddr4 3200mhz
msi gtx 970
970 evo 1tb ssd

I ran my own rift s with the same config as above but with a msi gtx 1080 and it worked real well but I think anything over that may be bottleneck my system.
So I looking for a new gpu thats equivalent to a gtx 1080 or 1070 or a second hand (1070/1080)
I know the prices for gpu are all over the place but just want to know what my options are.

Any suggestions are welcome

Thanks

i don't think there is anything new at that price range right now so your best trying to pick up a used 1070 / ti / 1660 super etc for as close to £200 as you can, another option would be to try and pick up a 3060ti FE for £369 via stock alerts and use that for your system if it's a better spec then hand the 1080 down to your son.

Best bet would be a 3060ti fe card via a drop at £369. Get via joing telegram on phone and subscribe to FEPartAlert. Nvidea shipping less now and when they drop youll litterally have a couple of mins before they sell out. Generally if there's a European drop, uk generally get them within a day or 2.

When it comes to upgrading GPU now, the only feasible budget options are to make an effort for an FE card as above, or pick up the cheapest 6600 or 3060 with reasonable cooler, then sell old but still valuable card to make up the difference. But be sure to not get scammed. 970s still very sought after right now and get a good amount back.

£300 on used cards just not worth the gamble imo, whilst new cards are a ripoff, they are still powerful.

Interesting b/c I have a 970 but do you mind if I ask what I should look out for to avoid getting scammed? (Been a long time since I sold a part)

Forgot to mention there, was a big drop on thurs in europe for cards, so hopefully beginning of next week theyll be one here... Have you subscribed to FEPartAlert?

A non refundable/ no chargeback payment if sending in post, so not paypal. Cash on collection ideally.
Don’t use popular auction sites or PayPal.
Thanks for the responses. I was wondering if there were specifics like, "keep a note of the serial numbers of your cards", or, "use UV marker to identify your board", but after thinking about it, that doesn't really help if Paypal just gives your money away regardless!
