Hey

First just want to say happy new year to the people over here at over clockers :) Hope you guys had a great Christmas.

You guys actually helped me build my first PC a few years back in that you helped me choose my parts. A few years on the PC is still going strong and I couldn't be happier with the machine (It's an I5 2500k)

But I do game a lot so I have been thinking of upgrading. I am currently running two gtx260's SSC Edition In SLI. They perform amazing well for older cards.

This link might give people an idea of how the cards still perform in today's standards in SLI.

Don't know if this is a good comparison to make but http://www.hwcompare.com/8923/geforce-gtx-260-core-216-vs-geforce-gtx-560-ti/ And that's just on gtx260, am I going to have to fork out quite a bit of money if I am to see a substantial difference?

So I'm thinking of selling them and upgrading, what cards would I have to look at to see any significant difference? Or are they that out of date now, any newer card would be good? Also I'm going to sell these in order to get a new upgrade. But a quick search of amazon and I can only find on example of someone selling this exact card second hand, and they want £130? That seems very high to me for a discontinued card. What is a reasonable price to ask for these?

100 - 150 for both. You want at least 2GB of Vram on a new card, I would consider looking at the 7870 Tahiti core addition, powercolor has them out at the moment called the myst edition or there sister company VTX 3D has them called the black edition.

Yes brand names do sell but a GTX 260? You can barely sell a 6850 for £70.
If he does sell it for more than £60 each then good on him but I don't see it happening.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciated. I guess I have a rough idea of what to ask for them. Question now is it really worth upgrading if they are not worth that much but still perform ok.

Well it depends on how much value I will get in price to performance. I know that sounds vague sorry. But say I did manage to sell them both and got £100, I would think about adding another £100 max and getting something like the 7870?

The guy who's asking £130 has a screw loose... :D
You'd be hard pushed getting £40ea for the cards, refurbed 480s were being sold by OCUK about a month ago for £72 each :D

As for an upgrade, what kind of budget were you thinking?

Haha. Yeah I really don't keep up to date with hardware, but I figured that was likely to be a silly price. Thanks guys, it's possible I will sell these to a friend or family, so I would not want to overcharge them :)

My budget really depends if I can sell my cards at the moment, but if I can't then it's likely I will just wait till I do have the full £200 for the 7870. So yeah £200 is about my limit.

Well if you do get £100+ for the 260s, how much money are you willing to add to the budget?

I was on about selling my 5850's together for £100. I upgraded from a 260gtx, they are well cheaper than that. £35 is an honest fair price. It is a DX 10 card after all.

Yeah I got the point about pricing a few posts ago, but I will repeat that as I'm likely to be selling them to a friend or family, they will get some sort of cheap deal anyway :) That's even if I decide to sell I might keep hold of them for now and just give them to a mate when I do upgrade further down the road.

If anyone has any general advice for me that would be appreciated, like say on if now would be a good time to upgrade? Or is it worth me holding out for anything like price drops or new cards on the horizon. I would like dx11, but for me personally the cards perform well even in games like BF3 at the resolutions and settings I use, So yeah it's not urgent or a priority, just something I would like to do at some point as my gpu is the oldest hardware in my build now.
