Hi all,

I'm considering changing my GPU, is it a good time to do this at the moment?

Basically I've got £350 to spend plus whatever I could get for my EVGA GTX 570 HD 2560mb.

What would I be best off getting and how much better than my card would it be?

My other consideration is changing to a 27" monitor and keeping my card, but I don't know if will have a big performance drop in BF3 if I up the resolution from 1080p

Thanks,

G

The 570 is still a capable card and as you have the 2560MB version, it should be ok for most newer games (you may have to turn the odd AA down to get decent fps returns).

I would hang onto it for a bit and see what is coming next.

At your current res, I'd keep the card; as gregster says, it's still a very capable piece of hardware (I have no intention of upgrading my 480 yet / 1200p). However, if you graduate to a higher resolution monitor, I think you may find your card won't cut it, though that does depend on what / how much you're willing to compromise on. If you do upgrade your screen, then I'd see how your card performs first before buying a new gpu.

I basically play BF3 all the time and it runs it flawlessly with EVERYTHING completle maxed out.

If I get a larger 2560 x 1440 screen will I see a huge performance hit?

Thanks,

G

Sadly, yes you will. I need 2 680's to play BF3 @ 5760*1080 and feel you would need 2*570's to get decent frame returns at 2560*1440.

At the same settings yes!

1920*1080=2,073,600 pixels
2560*1440=3,686,400 pixels

So thats a frame rate drop to almost half! AND thats if the card does not slow down further due to memory / bus size issues.

Sounds like you'll have to compromise on high to medium setting tbh.

At that res you need SLi / or a 670/680 minimum.

Would a 27" Monitor look pooh
If I dropped from native to 1080p so that my card could handle it in the meantime?

i would also like to know about having a high res monitor and using 1080p in till i get a couple of new GPU's

also, Guru, have you considered a 27" 120/144hz monitor?

@ 1080p? I'm looking to move above 1080p when I can so I won't be buying another 1080p monitor.

yes they are still 1080p, but however they are cheaper than high res monitors and will bring a much better gaming experience with a 120/144hz monitor

also you are guarenteed decent FPS in games for a long time without having to upgrade your GPU all the time to keep up with newer games, this is just my way of looking at it imo

:)
