Upgrading from IB to Skylake?

I currently have an i5-3570K clocked at 4.5 on water but i'm going to down grade my case as it's just too imprractical now. It seems also there's problem on the rear USB ports so I need a new MB regardless.

So i was wondering if was worth upgrading to an i7 6700k.. I certainly do more PS work than i used to and I've had the system nearly 4 years already

thoughts?
 
you will notice it but some say they dont.i guess its what you use your system for.

i do ps,movie stuff,rendering.gaming

i noticed a big jump going to x99 5820k.video times plummeted.games felt a lot smoother.

i would look at many benchmarks and think about how much of each task you do.
 
Normally I would say stick with what you have because the 3570k is still a excellent cpu but as you need a new motherboard it may be worthwhile "upgrading". The reason I say this is because now that 1155 has been dead a good couple of years you are going to be limited to whatever board you can pick up second hand and the good ones are still going for silly prices. You can try the MM but any decent boards get snapped up really quickly.
 
As pastymuncher says really, see what your options would be on an 1155 mobo first. If they're silly money then the decision is an easy one.
 
i5-3570K at 4.5GHz is still a very good cpu, look if you can find a cheap 1155 mobo before you do anything.

btw the performance difference from i5-3570K at 4.5GHz to i7-6700k(with a typical OC 4.7GHz) is around 1.65x
 
Ok cheers chaps.. I'll see what I can find. I'm not keen on second hand gear for my main rig tbh. I've had some duff stuff in the past but will have a shop around.

Kylew - where did you get that information regarding performance? Just out of interest :)
