So, I've had this iPhone 7 Plus for a while now and I'm looking for an upgrade. Quite fancya jump to Android, this was my first Apple device, I've had loads of Android phones in the past.

So, the camera and video are important to me and I'm leaning towards one of the upper mid table Android phones. Either an Xperia 5ii, a One Plus 8T, Samsung S20 FE or Pixel 5.

Any recommendations in here on how much of a step up these will be from my current phone? And which to look into more closely?
Thanks!

All four of those you mention are good phones. If the camera is important, the 8T should be at the bottom of your list. The other three are well-regarded when it comes to cameras. The Pixel series used to be 'the best', but now many reviewers are saying that the competition has caught up. The Pixel 5 is also the least impressive hardware wise, PLUS you've missed the preorder offer of £250 headphones by two days, so if you buy one, you do it knowing that everyone else got some nice headphones, and also that the phone will be reduced in price on black friday. The S20FE and the XPeria 5ii both still have (decent) gifts available with purchase.

It also depends on the screen size you're after. The Xperia 5ii has a larger screen diagonal than your iPhone 7 Plus, but is taller and narrower - in fact, it's more like a standard iPhone 7 in width. Check out this website to compare your preferred models side by side.

Reviews for the 5 II's camera is decent for both photos and videos. Pixel 5 with already one of the best cameras for photos seems to have improvements for videos too. As above, the 8T doesn't really do that well, mostly due to the post software processing. You can fix this using gcam but the 8T is still due so it will take a while for developers to properly optimise it for the phone. And even then, it's usually more focused on photo quality than video quality.

OK, so the Sony Xperia 5ii and One Plus 8 Pro are both within a whisker of each other price wise. I can't decide. Coming from the iPhone 7 Plus, is the 5-6mm narrower Xperia going to feel way to narrow? Is the Aspect ratio hard to get used to?

The Sony is (IMO) a superior product to the OP, but I’ve heard people saying they can’t get used to the aspect ratio and it’s one of the things that put me off buying one. However, I’m sure it will feel excellent in the hand owing to the narrowness.

Or the OP with its distinctly average cameras and wider screen...

If the 5-II had wireless charging, I probably would have had one by now.

I thought the same and then realised with a wireless charger you still need to plug that into the power and it is slower at charging so what's the point?
Wireless charging doesn't make sense to be honest.
