Obviously RAM on 32bit is limited to 3GIG, i've heard upgrading to a 64bit OS can be done very cheaply.

Does upgrading involve a complete re-install ie, having to either back-up the whole kaboodle, or lose everything and start from scratch?

Also is a bit of a faff with drivers and other potential problems?

The answer to this is unfortualtyly you cannot upgrade from Vista 32 to 64. you will have to do a fesh install.

So you will need to backup your data, perform a fresh install and then copy your old data back.

Quick question, does the retail version of Vista Home Premium include both? Do you just get the option as to whether you want to install 32bit or 64bit versions?

Thanks

The retail license includes both, but you only get a 32 bit CD (unless you buy Ultimate, which comes with both).

However you can send off for a 64 bit CD from MS very cheaply if you already have a retail 32 bit license.

just to add to that MS's replacement disc service is well fast and hassle free, i ordered a 64bit disc for my vista last Wednesday night and it arrived first thing this morning via UPS, all for £6.71. bloody excellant service from MS. can't praise em enough.

This also applies to OEM licenses.
