Upgrading from winxp

Hi, if I was to upgrade my operating system from winxp to vista or 7, would I lose my existing data? And would I be able to change from 32-bit to higher?

Unfortunately it's not possible to perform an "upgrade" from windows XP to windows 7. You will be forced to doing a clean install, which would require you externally back up all your data you wish to keep. Upon installing Win7, you then need to re install all your programs from scratch.

This itself answers your 2nd question. Assuming you have a 64-bit capable processor, you would be free to use a 64-bit OS.
