My X1950XT is burnt out and I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card, I am not going to o/c my current system or upgrade any other components or my display anytime in the next 9ish months.

I'm system is as follows:
Windows XP SP3
Core 2 Duo 6300 @ 1.86
2GB RAM

32" LCD (max res 1360x768 or 720p/1080i)

I want to play current/near future games at max(ish) settings but low resolution (limited by display above).
I was looking at getting a HIS 4670 512MB (prefer ATI to NVIDIA) is this overkill for the resolution I'll be playing at? if so what would people suggest i buy?

Also am I right in thinking I will need to finally swap to f@~#ing vista in order to use DX10/DX10.1?

seriously, a 4850?

Isn't the fact I've only got an 6300 processor going to bottle neck things so bad I wont even notice the difference between a 4670 and a 4850?

p.s. Do I definetly need vista for DX10?

It wont really bottleneck at that res, and yes DX10 is Vista only, but with certain games config changes are possible to give certain DX10 features in DX9.

Id go with a 4850 last you longer and better performance. Vista is entirely up to you i think tis great but for DX10 its def reccomended

Seems the general consensus is the 4850 then :)
So that brings me to a couple more questions:

1) is 1080i playable? I thought you only got 25-30Hz refresh rate as it's interlaced, does that not knacker your eyes.

2) considering my set-up, any point getting a 1GB card or is a 512Mb more than enough?

3) which 4850 card would people recommend?
