Upgrading gfx card ... cpu question

Am going to be upgrading to an Ati X1900XT from a X800 XL sometime soon and was wondering if my AMD 3000+ 64 venice cpu will now hold back games?

Can't really afford a new cpu on top right now but would it be wiser to upgrade the cpu of gfx?
