Thinking of upgrading my Gigabyte EX58-UD5.

Been looking at the Gigabyte X58A-OC

Would that be a good upgrade route or is there something better?

OS is W7 64bit.....would I have to do a total fresh install ?

Thanks

Pointless if you ask me to spend money on another board for a discontinued product.

The SATAIII ports are also controlled by a Marvell chip, these are poor compared to native solutions.

Whats the best mobo to go for at the moment then please, or is there something else on the horizon?

Or am I better off sticking with what I have got for now?

Thanks

Stick with what you have and wait for something worthy of upgrading too.

Waste of money. Save your money and see how Ivy Bridge performs. Re. Windows 7, yes, more than likely you will need to do a full reinstallation.

if you really need true sata3 speeds go for a z68 or wait for z77 board, but if not essential id stick with current board,i love mine, you wont ned to reinstall with win7 it will just update needed drivers for you

Thanks for the advice.

Not upgraded anything on my PC for ages.
Was going to upgrade to the new gen ATI gfx card, but thought my mobo would restrict its performace slightly?

Not really. If you haven't overclocked your i7 you should havve a go. With a decent cooler shouldn't be too hard to get 4.0GHz.

Here's a review of how an i7 (Bloomfield) compares to Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer.

As you can see gains are minimal and only "noticable" really at low resolutions where the CPU has to work harder. Maybe wait to see what Kepler offers? 7950 maybe? Would be a good upgrade from a 5850.

Already oc'd to 4ghz thanks.

I was told the new gen gfx cards used a new gen PCI speed or something, so would be slower on a older mobo.....is that incorrect?

Yes new graphics cards have PCI-E 3.0 but will need new generation CPU's, Ivy Bridge and Gen3 motherboards. The differences between PCI 3.0 and 2 are negligible even with the 7970!

Thanks for the advice.

Happy with my setup but was wondering what sort of performance increase sata3 would give me.

May just upgrade to a ATI 7950 or 7970 afterall.

Thanks again, appreciated.
