Hi,

Some stickies here suggested that a Crossfire setup would need up to 850 W, and I've recently decided to buy a second Sapphire HD 6850 for my rig. Wondering if the 600W PSU (Corsair CX) will suffice, as the sticky may be out of date on the estimation. If the sticky is correct, what PSU should I go for?

Rest of the specs:
i5 760 overclocked to 4.1 GHz
Corsair XMS3 2x2 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Sapphire HD 6850
Corsair CX 600W

OcUK was running 2 6950's on a 700watt OCZ PSU, so I would think 600watt would be enough, but if you wanna get a new PSU, a Corsair HX series would be good

with your overclock etc and psu not having 4 pci connectors etc id be inclined to advise you to get a better psu, 650/700w really, look for something with 4 pci connectors, corsair are very good.

Psu like this would be great Antec

with your psu being corsair, first you could try a couple of these

6 - Pin

6 pin to 8 pin adapter

filled this in the best i could and it shows a reading quite below 600w so its up to you.

Frankly PSU calculators are a waste of time, you should pay less attention to the total wattage and more on the max current ratings for the important rails like +12v. The Corsair CX series isn't really as good as the VX, HX or TX product lines so while trying it won't do any harm, you'll likely just get some instability under load I'd suggest an upgrade if that happens.

Any of the higher end Corsairs are fine, if you were on a budget you'd have no trouble with a TX750.

This might be of some use: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/produc...supplies.aspx?g=AMD Radeon™ HD 6850&p=Corsair

I have tried crossfired 5850's over the past couple of days and the highest power draw i saw was 384w at the wall when running Heaven.

Id say 700 - 800 watts to be safe.

The sticky is abit out of date and it was once assumed 1kw was needed for SLI. But technology has changed and improved things have got more efficent and reliable.

800w your talkin 480's in sli, we are talking about 6950's here, they wont ever draw anywhere near 700-800w

Actually according to the OP we are talking 6850s, so even lower. Like you say 800W would be completely overkill. Depends what the OP'er wants (modular etc) and his budget.

When I had dual 5850 on my system I pulled 430w from the mains with winmark 2006 running and prime 95.
