Upgrading graphics card - £100/130

Hi, As title says, im want to upgrade my graphics card.

In the price range of £100 -130

The card im using at the min is a:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone Power Edition 1024MB

And is about 5/6 years old and fell like it might be holding my game performance back.

Any help would be Great thanks

Id say stratch it £20 more and R9 380

Or if used is in the game, £70-80 gets you a 7950

IMHO,probably worth spending the extra for the R9 380.

Edit: Just compared with a 380. Go with the 380

get a used 280x, 7990, 760, 660, 680, hell get a 580, still better than your 6850, i just got myself a 270x for £73.


950 or 370 your best bet at brand new for 130, get yourself on the bay or umtree, on the later for 50 mile radius of me theres a 4gb 960 for £120

Even a 7870 would be twice as fast as the 6850. So basicly any card you can buy from in 100-130 range is s huge upgrade.

Not that much, but probably in the range of being around 160~170% the speed of the 6850, considering the 6850 is around 10% slower than the 5850, and the 7850 being around 45% faster than the 5850.

But it would be good to know what's the rest of the spec for OP's PC, as it would be pointless if he was still using a dual-core CPU from the Core2/Phenom II era...

Depending on rest of ur system a second hand 290 or 780 would fit ur budget. New, hmm tough one maybe 960 but dunno price of em. But if u can get in the MM here on forums I'd go for what I said above. If, ur comp is good enough for those cards.

R9 380 for new, or look for used ones. 780/290X (non reference ones). They go cheaply nowadays. Someone bought one 290X for £75 in here.

Or else look for 7970s who are going for around £50-55

If you're absolutely going new save up a little and get a 380. If I were you i'd be going 2nd hand though.

I'd also say you should consider going second hand OP. Likely to get a lot more bang for your buck within your price range.

a 750ti should be better shouldnt it? and you can pick those up for around £60 used, but op spends that low they could upgrade other parts of the system if its old.

yeah i know as the 7850 is what is now called the 270, but as a middle man the 750ti be a good option, it all depends what his system is and what he can actually find.

im scouting the bay as i need graphics cards for testing for my videos(not to replace my 270x ive not used yet) and auctions or buy now the cards like the 660 or even 650ti are pretty high in a lot of cases, even more than what my 270x cosr(£73) and others going for more than they probably should.
