Upgrading Graphics card for Prime z270-p

My friend is looking to upgrade his Graphics Card and has asked me for advice.

His current build is :

ASUSTek Prime Z270-P (LGA1151)
Intel Core i5 6600k @ 3.50GHz
8192MB ATI Radeon RX 580 Series
16gb Dual Channel @ 1069MHz

Any advice on what he can expect to upgrade to would be greatly appreciated.

His budget is up to £1000.

It depends on the game and the resolution, but it is dubious if upgrading much further than a 3060 Ti would be worthwhile, given the CPU. I guess he could always take it with him if he upgrades (if going higher than a 3060), but that's if you can find any stock.

I'd personally upgrade the mobo, CPU and possibly RAM (not as important) with that budget and spend the rest on a decent mid-end GPU. Is your friend bothered about ray tracing support?
