hi.

i have a asus gtx 285 in my system. good card overclocks well. i am building 2 systems for family and have ordered 2 xfx ati 5770 single slot cards. now having a chat with a friend it seems that i could use them instead of gtx and get better results. never sli'd or crossfired before so not sure. but now i have looked into it i think i can get more bang for my money from a single card for about the same amount of money. paid £170 for both xfx cards. so is it worth using both cards or get better results from a more upto date single card?

thanks in advance

You've had a few views but no replies yet, so I thought I'd try to be of some help.
If you can, seeing as you have access to both, give the 5770s a quick spin in your system to see if it works better for you, if not you can go back to your 285.
Failing that, lookup some benchmark scores (i know they're not always accurate or reliable) just to give you an idea.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

thanks leftright.

ive been looking at cards in overclockers and i have to say i know nothing about ati cards. always had nvidia. i'm looking at the MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB. seems a nice card but its not mentioned if its physx and cuda enabled like it says for nvidia cards. are they there as standard and has anybody any thoughts about this card compared to my gtx.

Physx and CUDA are Nvidia only.

A 6950 is a very good buy at the moment especially when you can unlock most of them to a 6970.

You would probably IMHO best stick the 5770's in your builds and get a 6950 if you fancy one and sell the 285.

If it were me I would have used the 285 in one of the PC's, bought a 5770 for the other PC and then the 6950 for your own.

thanks for the info varkanoid.

wasnt going to upgrade just yet but..... got bit by the bug! will put the 5770's in family builds, buy that msi 6950 and save gtx for another build. one will come along. now what was that about unlocking it to a 6970? sounds like fun!
