Hi, i want to dual boot my mac with windows and would like to get a bigger hard drive for it. I was looking at the Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM or the 5400RPM version. Just have a few questions about them. Will i notice a big difference in speed between these two drives?

Also, how much more power does the faster drive consume in comparison to the 5400RPM?

One more, i know this is in the wrong place but i will also be upgrading a Dell M65 would these drives also fit in this laptop?

Many thanks

Go look up the dell specs on the website and if it is a sata laptop drive then it should fit assuming dell do not use a proprietary power connection for their stuff.

There is not meant to be any real world difference in power between 5400 and 7200 on the laptop drives (from what I have heard).

I have the WD320Gb 7200RPM unit in my MB2.2 - used it to replace a 250Gb Fujitsi 5400rpm.

It's a great drive - fast, doesn't vibrate and hasn't really affected battery life bar 10-15 minutes however that could all be in my head :D

I'm contemplating throwing in a 500Gb unit but they're only 5400rpm - more space, less performance. But probably marginal - I seem to have a natural aversion to putting in slower components, can't imagine why.
