Hey,

I've been looking at upgrading from my current stock hard drive in my Macbook Pro (early 2008) to a 320GB WD 7200rpm hard drive. The problem is, I don't want to void my warranty.

I rang my local authorised centre (not Apple store because they said they won't do it ) and they've quoted £149 for an "Apple" hard drive. Apparently using any other kind will void the warranty.

Anyone know if this is true or if they are just feeding me rubbish?

Doubling the price for a hard drive with an Apple sticker on it is ridiculous.

They say it has to be an authorised Apple drive in order to not void the warranty. I wouldn't mind paying £25 to get it fitted as long as I can use my own hard drive. Paying £150 then the £25 to have it fitted is a complete waste of money.

There's loads of tutorials but I really don't want to void the warranty.
