I am very new to headphones outside of gaming sets but i picked up a cheap pair to have a play and have been totally converted to them - i got a set of Sennheiser HD515 for £25 so for that money it wasn't much of a gamble...

Since then i have got a Mixamp and modmic for use on my ps4 and after some advice from the gaming section i have them working superbly.

I was originally going to spend around £100 on some headphones some friends told me about AKG K550, i didn't even know about closed vs open headphones such is my lack of knowledge...

The question is that with my birthday and christmas coming up an not really knowing what i want how much of a jump would i get in quality from a better set of headphones, say i was spending around £150 and looking at the Sennheiser HD558/598?

A big use is gaming on ps4, vita & wii u but also use on my laptop and occasionally music.

Thanks, i have spent lots of time reading through that forum - i would describe my current headphones as rocky robins ;)

I am taken by the HD598, seem to have a good rep for gaming but also music while being very comfy - i have found the current Sennheisers very comfy!

So around that money what should i try to listen to, the AKG q701 look ideal but expensive when you know the mass drop price! Philips X1 if i can find a set seem great also?

I have been listening to a bit more music so it is a consideration but probably not the main use initially but this could change....

I can't fault my X1's I need to try Q701's and K702's but I'm not buyign them when i suspect they won't be a huge upgrade at full price :/

What is the comfort like on the X1, i am very tempted by them or X2 but as the HD515 are the first over ear headphones i have had outside TB gaming stuff i am not sure if i just got lucky and Sennheisers are super comfy or i have small ears and no headphones will give me issues!!?

X1s are amazingly comfortable most comfortable (and best) headphones ive ever had.

Just received some X2s today so now trying those out :D First impressions are v good!

they are incredibly comfortable some people mention the memory foam getting a bit warm and at first i would agree but I'm totally used to it now. Far too engaged in the music or game to care about that. They sit nicely around my ears too don't feel them pressing on them like I do with some headphones.

I have been doing lots of reading and my head hurts..

I was fairly set on the Philips X2 with the caveat that i wanted them for under £200, then i was going to get the X1 on offer but missed them much like i missed the AKG Kxxx specials..

So i thought why not go with the 598 as i know the comfort is good and then i say someone got them for £66 from amazon.es so can't be paying full whack for them...

Arrrghhhhh

A question, is it ok to have various leads and use them - thinking of a v-moda boom mic + other 3.5 - 3.5 leads etc, not going to damage the port??

Ordered Philips X2 just now, hope i like them....

Now to decide if i should stick with the Modmic or go for a single lead solution and the v-moda boom mic?

Very nice headphones :)

Personally I'd go for the v-moda boom as I wouldn't want to stick anything to the headphones.
