Well hi...

I hope to get a bit of extra cash in August and I thought I would look into upgrading a bit. I am a bit out of touch so I am just getting the early research done...

Anyway, I am not a hardcore user but I do like having decent quality stuff. I play a few games etc. Not sure on budget as yet but perhaps up to €1000. Here is what I am working with at the moment:

  1. Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68AP
  2. Video Card: HIS HD7950
  3. CPU: i5 2500k
  4. Memory: XMS3 8GB
  5. Main Drive: Samsung 120GB SSD
  6. Sound: Xonar STX
  7. PSU: Superflower 750watt
  8. Monitor: ASUS PB278 27"
  9. Speakers: Logitech Z-2300
  10. OS: Win7 64bit
  11. Case: ATCS 840
  12. Keyboard: Corsair K90
  13. Mouse: Deathadder Black Edition

What is the build primarily for? If it's just for gaming I would overclock the CPU add a GTX 1070 or 1080 and be done with it.

If it's just for gaming, this is probably your best bet. The 7950 is getting a little long in the tooth now, so it's well worth upgrading. Yes you'll only get PCI-E 2.0 speeds with a 2500K on Z68, but that probably isn't going to make that much difference.

Well I don't game as much as I used to but I may get back into it if I upgrade. General usage these days but I just love having high quality parts! :D

I was actually thinking of upgrading the motherboard, CPU and graphics card.

I am shortly going to pop a 1070 in my i2500 so will let you know how I get on. I had HD7970 that is being RMA'd so taking this chance to upgrade now.

Like others have said, just get a decent 1070 and you're set. I'd recommend Zotac for the great performance and excellently long warranty.
