Upgrading Laptop memory?

My gf is a bit unhappy with her laptop being slow and is talking about getting a new one, which would be a complete waste of money IMO - it's not that bad, XP-M 3000+ running winxp, the only problem is it only has 256meg PC2700 RAM.

What I'd like to do is add another 512meg RAM to bring it up to 768, but despite having performed countless PC upgrades/builds, I've never actually 'been inside' a laptop. Took a quick squiz inside just now and it didn't look too hard, although the memory slot is like nothing I've seen before!

How easy is it to add memory to a laptop (it's a Compaq Presario R3200)? Anything I need to know compatibility wise or can I just buy any old 200pin PC2700 SO-DIMM?

In the end I used Crucial's memory compatibility wizard thing and bought a stick of 512meg PC2700 to be on the safe side. At least that way if I run into issues I shouldn't have any trouble returning it.
