The internals are all the same, it's the moutning brackets external fascia which will be a problem.
Does your laptop have a removable drive bay. Some do which allow you to remove the optical drive and use the space for an extra battery or floppy drive
My thinkpad does and it looks like the optical drive is just inside a removeable caddy. Looks like all I need to do it remove a few screws and drop in a new drive.
If your laptops optical drive is built in then look for an upgrade from Dell or check if opening up the laptop and replacing it yourself voids your warranty.
Its pretty much as Mujja said in this case. The CPx (CPi etc) models all use a removeable optical drive, that are held into the case with a caddy of sorts (this caddy also providing the bespoke connector the bay uses).
You can get hold of any laptop DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive and place it into the caddy from your old drive no problems
