I have recently upgraded my PC - new motherboard, CPU, RAM and Graphics Card.

When I upgraded I reinstalled windows because my PC had become bloated and cluttered and needed a good clear out.

I'm about to upgrade my son's PC with my 'hand me downs'.

Hiw installation is fairly clean and whilst I could reinstall windows it would be nice if I didn't have to.

Is it really necessary to reinstall windows (XP) when you change MoBo or will windows sort it all out?

Cheers,

Nigel

If the motherboard is a different chipset, then it's best to start with a clean install.

Deffo do reinstall only recently I moved from one via chipset board to another and even with that I ran into problems and after wasting the better part of a day trying to sort it ... you guessed it ... format and reinstalled and up and running again.

There is a way to do it so you dont have to by removing all your chipset drivers form the device manager, but the full format re-install is the best option. :)

Thanks for the heads up.

Thought that would be the answer - the install isn't too bad - just hoping to avoid the endless reboots to get Windows updated to latest.

Cheers,

Nigel
