Upgrading motherboard this ok?

750 watt ati aproved psu
Sapphire HD5850
WD 150gb hdd
Windows 7 64 Ultimate

I was going to order this mobo next week,

And then buy 4 more gb of the same ram, so would I notice an improvement in peformance with 8gb over 4gb of ram? Because im getting some stutter in games. Also that new mobo supports pci-e 2.0 and so does my 5850.

Lastly I am going to get a better hdd, been thinking about getting this,

What is your CPU?

As for upgrading the RAM, 4GB is generally regarded as plenty for high-end gaming - i'm pretty sure upgrading to 8GB will not affect the stutter.

Also, PCIe 2 is not needed to get the most out of a 5850. Furthermore, s775 is a dead socket - I wouldn't suggest spending the best part of £100 on a new s775 board.

The HDD is grand, I have 2 and they are nice and fast. However, you may want to look at the Samsung F3 1TB.
 
To the i5? Sure. This is the CPU, this is a P55 board (not a top end one, but it overclocks well and has loads of features). I would also suggest getting a CPU cooler for some overclocking fun (aim for 4GHz).

Here is a review of the i5. Notice how at only 2.66Ghz it soundly beats the Q9650
 
let me get this right, you plan to spend about £450 upgrading a SKt775 PC?

RAM = 75 based upon 2x2gb ddr2 kits
CPU = 265

i suggest you get what cmndr_andi spec'ed then add some DDR3 RAM in. the price will be similar depending on what RAM you get
 
Aye, you will need new RAM. This is what I would suggest getting.

Overall, P55 motherboard, i5 cpu and 4GB DDR3 RAM will cost the same as a Q9650 and P5Q motherboard - and the i5 will be MUCH faster.
 
Sounds good, only just got kingston Hyperx last month £110 from pc world thoe, I got robbed, so price works out about same either way. Well but like you say other cpu is faster
