Hi,

I was wondering whether it be worth my while upgrading my gpu (although this may be rather pointless since my cpu (4800 x2) may limit any potential benefit).

I currently have a DFI RS482 m/b and did look at whether a 8800g/t/x would even be compatible, nvidia's site does not have it on it's compatibility list (but thats hardly exhaustive).

Unless of course theres another gpu out there that would give a significant, i.e. noticeable difference?

Or alternatively, I just wait till later this year/next year and go for a complete overhaul.

Cheers, Paul.

Next step up is definitely the 8800series, there would be a bit of a jump going to an X1950XT but not really enough to make it worthwhile in my eyes.

I'd guess that your motherboard should be compatible with an 8800series card as it does have a 16x PCI-E slot (I think) but it is only a guess so if it still does what you require then you may feel more comfortable waiting and upgrading fully when knowing all parts are compatible. :)

If you are planning to upgrade anyway, then you might want to consider volt modding your card to tide you over. An extra couple hundred mhz to the core will give you a fairly noticable boost.

When I was using a single 7900gt I did a simple little mod that upped the volts from 1.2 to 1.55. That let me get about 680 on the core and 1660 on the memory, which made it as quick as a 7900gtx at most things.
