Hello all,

i need some help i haven't upgraded my system in a good while now and im looking at spending a good £1000 on it but not sure on what to get.

this is my current build :

CPU : AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
GPU : AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Motherboad : AMD Sabertooth 990fx
Ram : 2 x 4GB 1688hz
Hard Drive : OCZ Agility 60gb SATA 6Gb/s SSD
& 1 tb HDD 7200RPM
power supply : SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply
CPU cooling fan : Alpenfhn Sella CPU Cooler - 92mm

i know my main upgrade i need is a new GPU, CPU and maybe more ram
so far ive looked at

GPU Upgrade ? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inno...s-graphics-card-c98tp-1sdn-n5h-gx-057-in.html

CPU Upgrade ? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...turbo-socket-am3-processor-oem-cp-360-am.html

Any Replies or advice would be greatly appreciated
thanks.

Your psu would still be good for any single card setup. New Gpu's are going to be released in June so you may be better off waiting until then, new AMD CPU's will be out at the end of the year, so Intel may drop their prices with the expected performance increase, but if you need to upgrade now, then it would depends on what you use it for, and the resolution that you would be running at and what you would be using it for

im running 1920x1080 on my monitor at the momont but im also thinking about changing that soon so it could go up, with the new Gpus coming out in june with that reduce the price on all the current top ones ?

Yes thats generally what tends to happen, especially this time with a die shrink offering better performance per watt. However if you wanted up upgrade your cpu, mobo and ram, nows a good a time as any. However that 9590 isn't much better than your phenom II. Its just an overclocked 8350. If I was you i'd go with a Skylake build or try to get Haswell cheap.

However if you must go AMD i'd wait till the new Zen Cpu's come out at the end of the year, which should be a massive improvement on the bulldozer architecture.

oh right ok, so those new GPU's are coming out soon then, do you have a link to some of the ones coming out ? and would it be worth getting one of the new ones coming out in June or just get a previous gen 980ti?

and yes defiantly worth waiting till the end of the year for the New Zen, just looked it up looks like a massive improvement. just hope it doesn't cost a arm n a leg.

Couple of things- Upgrading the graphics card on that 1100T is pretty pointless. It'll net you some gains but you will be CPU bound and you will never get the same framerates as if you were on a late gen i5. Also we are nearing the PCIE 2.0 limit and PCIE 3.0 is becoming necessary to pull full grunt from some upcoming cards so having it in your system is a must.

Upgrading to skylake will also give you a lot of connectivity benefits.

GPU wise, once you upgrade your CPU motherboard and RAM, for 1080P, you don't need a top end card. A GTX 970 or equivalent is MORE than enough for 1080P. If you want to max any game out at 1440P consider a 980Ti or equivalent. If you want to game at 4K on a single card wait for the new cards launching this year and buy a high end card.

RAM wise the average base spec for an enthusiast level system these days is 16GB. 2X8GB of DDR4 really isn't that expensive.

You may want to consider a faster and larger SATA SSD or even an M.2 SSD as well.

Your power supply is a very good unit so keep it.

so I've had a look around the Overclockers shop and come up with this so far:

CPU Cooler : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...iquid-cpu-cooler-cw-9060007-ww-hs-006-cs.html

CPU : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1151-processor-retail-cp-581-in.html

MotherBoard: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...cket-1151-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-526-gi.html

Ram: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/geil...el-kit-blue-led-gww416gb3000c1-my-193-gl.html

and then a GPU but depends on what the prices go down to in june when the new ones get released.

if this build looks wrong pls advice

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £463.96
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Use your existing CPU Cooler, GPU, Case & PSU I would suggest the above. Once the new GPUs land, you'll have some funds to play with for a new GTX1070/GTX1080 if you wish.

oh right ok, will 8GB of ram be enough seen a few reviews where u need 16GB now for most games ?

also just wondering is that the kind of SSD where it goes down in performance from installing and uninstalling data on it ?

also my current CPU cooler doesn't seem to work as well anymore lets the CPU get really hot what would you suggest for a reasonable upgrade ?

8Gb will be fine but if you do find you want to add an additional 8gb, I would suggest waiting for a set you want (matching?) to appear on the weekly deals.

No mate, that SSD will be fine. You'd be hard pushed to find one of them knocking around as the firmware is very good now.

As for a CPU cooler, would you want air or an 'all in one'?

oh right ok ye i can always get another 8gb of ram later of same type to match.

CPU cooler wise im not too sure, the fans on my comp are ok but not the best think there just standard 120mm fans

This is very good, though I'd change the ssd for a m2 nvme model. The pm 951 is around the same price or spend a bit more on the faster sm951.

8gb not enough if you like being able to open lots of stuff.

Double the ram, halve the SSD and add another SSD when you need it.

IMO

oh right ok well i normally don't have that much open, just worried about background processes then playing high Requirement games. so i might be ok with the 8GB.

also i looked at the SSD you mentioned Pandem0nium is this what you suggested : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...state-drive-mzvlv512hcjh-00000-hd-223-sa.html ?

also about the CPU Cooler i tried abit of research and it looked like the all in one seem better, any suggestions for a good one ?

That's the one. I have that and am very happy with it. But get the SM if you don't mind spending more as its a good bit faster.
