Upgrading my cpu and mobo, good choice?

+1 just get that AMD build, thats a lot of money on some old tech imo.

I hear you guys but I dont care for future upgrades after this because my next build I will use new tech. Are you saying that cpu isnt worth the money, ie its not got good peformance? tbh im just trying to get this 775 as good as it can be. Thanks for feedback.

The point here is that you're as well to go new tech now if you're going to buy a new mobo and cpu, especially expensive ones like those. As suggested, if you want a small upgrade get a 2nd hand q6600 to keep you going for a year or two.

If you aren't getting the upgrades listed second hand for a lot less money, then I also say put it towards a new tech build.

New AMD build: £343.55, your upgrades £321.97... Unless you're getting a hefty discount on them used (unlikely), spending the extra £20 for AMD build is a no-brainer.

If you're planning on keeping this setup for a reasonable amount of time, also consider adding a second 5850 - I strongly suspect one will have problems maxing games like Metro 2033.

Ok you guys are right, its time to let my old 775 go. Always had intel cpus in all my pcs down the years but I will give amd a try. The am3 system here looks just what I need! Im going to order in a week or two, thanks for your advice;)
