Upgrading my hd4870x2

Hi all,

I am currently looking for an upgrade to my 4870x2 - it's been great over the years but the times have moved on. Initially I was thinking of a 7970, but after reading through the forum it seems there is not much separating it and the 7950 after overclocking.
I've just recently built an i7 3770k system which is running a lot better than my old Q6600 system, so I thought the graphics card needs an upgrade.

Has anyone gone from a 4870x2 to a 7950? What did they think? I know there's going to be a difference but do people think its worth waiting for the hd8000 range to come out, or just get the 7950 now? I'll be gaming at 1080p res on a 30" screen.
I don't want to compromise really, I'm looking to game at 1080p and all settings set to max. Hopefully the card I purchase would enable me to run new games at those settings for two years (I'd be prepared to xfire to achieve this if required before then).

The 4870x2 runs hot and is very loud if I turn the fan up to lower temps. I'm not too concerned with noise, but this card sounds like a helicopter.
Any advice is appreciated - thanks

A 4870x2 was equivalent to my 5870. I upgraded to a GTX 670 and the difference is huge.

A 7950 isn’t far of the 670 so you will notice a massive difference in performance!

Just get a 7950 and don't look back...will run anything, OC it abit if you want.
There's not much point getting anything else atm, price/performance wise unless you don't like ATI (which I'm assuming you do ^^)

Thanks guys, I didn't need much convincing. Probably go for the HIS iceq boost - its the one standing out for me. Thanks again for prompt reply.
