Okay so I bought my HTPC a few years ago and I think it may be time for an upgrade. I am aiming for super silence and I think I am near achviing it but I think the case is what is letting me down as it houses the noisiest part at the front (HDD). Here are my specs -

Case: Silverstone ML03
CPU: Intel i3-2120
Mobo: Asus MATX P8H61-M PRO
RAM: 8GB
PSU: Seasonic g380 380w
CPU Cooler: Scythe Shuriken RevB low profile
Case fan: 2 x Noctua R8 redux
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD6450 512mb (passive)
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB
HDD: 3TB WD RED

I am basically looking for a case that can dampen the sound of the HDD without having to spend too much and still can fit on my tv stand (about the size of an AV amp maximum)

Any suggestions?

I would also suggest to get a decent low profile cooler, such as Prolimatech Samuel 17, or Storm Gabriel, or noctua l9i

In the past i've used 2.5" drive to get around this problem. Or yo could build a cheap NAS box, hide it in the cupboard somewhere and then have just a no noise ssd drive in the htpc.

Hey thanks for the replies. The NAS option sounds very tempting and feasible as I have the necessary spare parts for it however there are a few issues

1) I am a NAS newbie
2) I want my NAS upstairs when my router and main phone (fibre) socket is downstairs
3) I want the NAS server to also run as a light browsing and downloading PC.

Would this be possible?
