Hello all,

Current spec is as follows, built a couple of years ago following advice on here:

Leadtek GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 2.66GHz (1333FSB)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK)
Western Digital Caviar Blue 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD2500AAKS)
Corsair Dominator 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 XMS2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX Dual Channel (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

I'm thinking about upgrading but I'm not sure what would make the biggest difference in terms of performance. It's used mostly for gaming (CoD, Need for Speed etc) so I'm guessing a new graphics card might be best. I've not really kept up to speed with developments so any advice would be good. Other than that I suppose the CPU is the next target?

Budget-wise I reckon couple of hundred quid might be possible? I'd like something that will last a few more years without upgrading again, plus I'm also tempted by Windows 7 and Just Cause 2....decisions decisions...

Cheers for reading.

sound advice above.

4Gb kit is night and day difference in games compared to 2Gb.

Good graphics card too.

He said he wants something that will last him a few years without upgrading so I don't think that a HD5770 would be up to the job unless he wants to xfire. As fallen god said you could try to overclock that E8200 to 3.8Ghz but that would need at least something between 1.4-1.47v and that is over the max recommended voltage of the E8200(1.36v).However you should be able to overclock it to about 3.6Ghz with 1.2-1.25v.As for the GPU you could get a HD5850....that will surely last you at least a year.
