Im debating about upgrading my PC

Spec:
E6600 Dual Core
Asus MB
8800 GTS
4gb DDR2 6400 OCZ ram
1TB green leaf HD (primary)
500gb western digital HD (Secondary)
650W PSU
Coolmaster case
DVD RW
22" samsung monitor

I only use my PC for games mainly (C&C, COD4, CSS, OFP etc) and downloading.

Now do you think I should keep my spec and wait until next year when the i9 comes out and get the i7 (when its cheaper) and just get a new graphics card now to support new games?
Also I have noticed that every time my computer restarts the res on my monitor changes and I have to keep resetting it.
Its been a while since i've been into computers so just need pointers where to start off again.

Also when i change my CPU i will use my E6600 for a HTPC and hook it up to my TV.

Cheers

If you havent already then get an aftermarket cooler for the CPU and clock it, add in a new gfx card and you should be good for another year or two, Id hold out as long as you can before upgrading the whole system tbh, but i9s are likely going to be outside most peoples budgets, added to that if you only game (as you say) youll see no benefit at all with an i9 anyway

I never really got the hang of overclocking, I tried once before and i think the RAM i have was stopping me going any higher?
I have an aftermarket cooler already....do you have a link for a guide of how to overclock properly?
