Hi guys :) I've never used this part of the forum before so please forgive me if this isn't the correct area to post. I'll start by saying I am not really up to speed on PC tech, I bought my first custom PC last year and I want to upgrade a little.

My current specs are;
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K
CPU Overclocking: 4.3Ghz - Extreme Overclock
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 Water Cooler
Operating System: Windows 8 (64-bit)
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX2
RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x8GB)
Hard Drive: 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB - Though when I check my specs it says 4Gb and not 2Gb

Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
Internet: Wireless 802.11N 300Mbps MIMO PCI card
Case: Zalman Z11 Plus
PSU: 600W Corsair CX

I have about £500 to spend as well as what I can get for selling the graphics card/CPU/mobo... I want to swap the case for something that looks more stylish and easy to clean, instead of looking like something made by NASA. Though a temperature display would be handy as my room gets really hot, even in winter.
What do you think I would be able to do to it to get a noticeable upgrade from what I have now? I've been looking through GPU's but I get confused by all the different numbers :p

Thanks!

The GTX970 may even use less power than your GTX670 as it is more efficient.

GTX670 vs GTX970 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1349?vs=1355

Power consumption is also compared in those charts near the bottom. Its a tiny bit more power hungry.

There is nothing wrong with your current CPU, what would you upgrade it to? a Haswell 4670K that is a small % faster clock vs clock.

Thanks for the help guys! Looks like I'm off to the bank tomorrow!

To be honest, I was expecting to spend a lot more than that!
I may even be able to buy a proper monitor now instead of using a smart TV. Thanks a lot.

That corsair Carbide one looks really nice.

1 more silly question now but I just want to be sure, would everything be compatible and fit in that case? Like would that GPU work on my Mobo?

Yep yep and yep.

I already checked that the H60 fits that corsair case.

It takes long GFX cards (up to 450mm)

PSU fits.

Your board may or may not need a BIOS update (this will wipe your oc settings so make a note of them) to recognize the new card.

Well just go through the pages and note down the settings or take photos.

But it may work without a BIOS update.
