Hey all!

Its been a several years since I last updated my PC, and things have certainly moved on, and rather left me behind! I thought the best place to decide what new parts I needed was here, as you all have the best collective knowledge about gaming rigs on the interwebs.

Unfortunatly, I have a few pesky requests :P

Pc will be used for gaming (BFBC2/BF3/EvE/CS:GO)/web/light media (HD movies and TV/some DvD and Blu-ray ripping).
My budget is £300-350, but obviously the less the better.

The parts I am needing, and some preferences are;

CPU - Want to stick to Intel, preferably a 1155 Ivybridge. Was thinking something along the lines of http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-406-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567

MoBo - Preferably Asus (had many other brands and Asus have always come out on top) and if possible a z77 chipset, just so I'm future compatible. Mobo also needs to be SLI, as I might want to get another GTX470 in the future. Was thinking perhaps http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-517-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261

RAM - I'm thinking 8gig makes sense, not totally sure on which speeds I need for the Mobo. Perhaps http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-053-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

Hard Drive - Already have 2 200GB SATA2 Seagates, but for the OS and games I was hoping for a solid state. The bigger the better. Maybe http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-110-OC&groupid=1657&catid=2101&subcat=2102

Also, as stated, I've got a EVGA GTX470. Will this, and the about system or similar, give me decent in game power? Or will I deffo need another GPU?

I'm sure I've made a bad choice somewhere, not too great working out what will work best!

I really appreciate you guys even just reading this, and hopefully you can help me make a better informed choice.

Thanks a lot,

Arsonist

Thanks RJC. Thats an awesome spec.

I think I will be going for the K seriese 3.4, as the added bonuses are easily worth the extra £20 (awesome, it's dropped £10 since you posted!).

Is the RAM you posted simply better due to higher frequencys? If so, what about - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-015-AD&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1387 or are the timings slightly worse on this?

I know its petty, but I'm not sure about the Gigabyte board. I'm not completly sure on boards. Does the Asus I posted do SLI, and would it be comfortable with 2x GTX 470?

Thanks for the input dude :)

I was like you a couple of months back, I'd had a problem with a Gigabyte board a few years back, so was going to buy Asus as that's what I've had since and not had a problem. They guys on here recommended Gigabyte, primarily due to the quality of the product and UK based support. So far, not had any problems with the board (running the same CPU as you), and everything seems to be working trouble free. Hopefully I don't ever find out about the UK based support, although having posted that last sentence I imagine the machine will go into meltdown this evening! :)

Ha, you have tempted fate.
I've been digging around these forums, and nearly every mid spec z77 board people have recommended was the Gigabyte. I'm thinking I might just have to ignore my desire fo the Asus, especially as the cheapest Asus to properly do SLI at 16x and 8x is £117.

I'm about £50 over budget :( Anybody else got any cost saving ideas? Would really appreciate them!!

If you're really keen on saving pounds then get an 2500k, still a great cpu, just has 10% less performance than the 3570k. Should be £10-£15 cheaper.

*edit : also get OEM instead of retail if you can, no fan, comes in a tiny box and only 1 year warranty, again reducing price by £10-£15

Need a retail as I'm pretty sure my old Zalman CNPS7700-ALCU won't fit the board or CPU. Will probably upgrade this on my next pay packet anyway. And kinda want to get the better processor and benifit from HD4000.

Gone over budget, but I think i've decided on:

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) - Here
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) - Here
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz - Here
OCZ Agility 3 90GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Here

Total - £409.96

Unless anybody has any last min additions :)

Edit - Just found a clip for my Zalman on socket 115. OEM it is!

Actually thats a sticking point. I've got a Powercool 650W. Reckon that will give out enough juice? Or will I need a new one?

Finally ordered the bits I mentioned in my previous post, £421 delivered. Will upgrade PSU soon.

Many thanks for everyones help!
