Hi Guys

I'm looking to upgrade my set up when I move next month - we're going to be sticking with SKY but I really want to be able to run a gigabyte LAN for my NAS connection.

Whats going to be the easiest way of doing this? Replacing the router to something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-072-AS ? Or use the existing router and add a gigabyte switch and wireless AP?

At a maximum I want to be able to support 3 TVs streaming netflix / skygo / youtube / NAS, 2 x SONOS and still be able to play PC games on line (I don't want much lol) as we've got a busy tech hungry house!

I've heard of using wireshark to extract the passwords / username from the old router to get around SKYs T&Cs - is it as simple as it sounds. I'm willing to put the time & cash in to get this right but I only want to set this up once lol

Any advice would be highly appreciated or if anyone else has done similar please let me know

Hmmm it looks like maybe changing to BT and getting their home hub 5 could solve my problems for next to nothing.........

I would go the switch route, cheapest and simplest.

It won't help since the router/modem supplied by sky isn't gigabit, so the switch is likely not going to set itself at gigabit speeds.

And I would go with what MilanoChris said and go with plusnet since they have some decent prices, and you can use your own router since they don't hide the username and password under miles of firmware code (you actually create that information when you sign up).

Why wouldn't a switch will work in this situation?

There's no problem mixing 100Mbit and Gigabit devices. The Sky router's 100Mbit connection is irrelevant to any traffic that's local to the switch.

Of the four things he said he used regularly, only 1 isn't tied into the Internet connection?

An Internet connection that couldn't possibly be impacted by using a 100Mbit network connection.

If you've got a FTTC connection the only reason to have Gigabit is for internal transfers. For that it doesn't matter whether it's a separate switch or built into the router.
