im looking to upgrade my system i currently have the following

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition
Asus M5A99X EVO 990X
corsair vengance 1600mhz 2x 4gb
corsair ax850
corsair h80
msi N550GTX-Ti-M2D1GD5/OC x2
corsair 600t

now im not sure of the best way to go upgrade my motherboard and chip
ie i5 ivybridge
or graphics ie 670 or 680

this is for gaming only

I would say the graphics card needs to be upgraded first.

The 550ti chip isnt particularly fast.

What games do you play and at what resolution?

Is your CPU overcloked?

Stulid is right the 550ti is pretty pants.

I assume the X2 means you are running them in SLI. Unfortunately the VRAM doesn't combine so you still only get 1GB of VRAM. This is a limiting factor, which will prevent you maxing out the graphics settings on games (yes even at lower resolutions 1680x1050 lets say).

I would look at getting a 2GB GPU. The 7850 lets say (you seem to prefer nvidia though), to replace your mobo and CPU you would need to spend over £100 for a SLI mobo to reuse your 550ti's never mind the expense of the CPU.

As you have a black edition CPU overclocking it is very easy providing you have an aftermarket heatsink to keep temps in check.

No need for a GTX680 at that resolution (even a GTX670 is OTT) but there are no other sensible Nvidia alternatives at lower price points.

The GTX570+GTX560 ti 448 havent really dropped much in price, the GTX580 is looking lame at £269, but there is this one at £229 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-161-GW&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1812 - but just a 90 day warranty.

So at £311 this overclocked GTX670 is the most sensible choice - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-164-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2294

GTX670>7950

Theres nothing wrong with your setup, overclock it if its not already for an extra boost (maybe buy a aftermarket heatsink if you are using the stock item)

sorry getting a bit confused

keep system and just get a new graphics card so wot would be the best for my system without overkill

Games aren't really limited by the CPU these days. Your CPU is fine for all current games, just the GPU is letting you down. The 550 is a bit pants to say the least. Depending on your budget i'd go for the 670 if spending £300, or the 7850 if spending £200. Ignore the 680 as it's not worth the extra over the 670.

im just playing with the idea off upgrading my system to an i5 3570k now the question are

will i see much difference in game play compared to my 1100t?

and also if i do upgrade would i be better off with a 680?

Some games will see some improvement with a 3570k, others not. The gpu is the main factor with modern games.
