Hey there,

Will this fit in an NC10? It fulfills every need I have of it, apart from the teeny tiny 160gb HDD. I'd like to be able to carry my entire music collection around with me, which is 140gb, but also it would be ideal to have a backup of everything else on it.

So, will it fit? :)

I already have an external 1tb BTW, it's great but I don't like having to have it plugged in to use it, plus it's used mainly as a transfer device, not permanent storage.

One day I'll upgrade from the NC10, but not yet. No funds and I know exactly what I'm after, and it doesn't exist yet. I'll just transfer the HDD over if I ever upgrade. :)

pretty sure they have a max drive mounting depth of 9mm but don't hold me to that, I haven't had one for a couple of years now. The Spinpoint is 9.5mm - 10mm so it won't fit.

Think 500GB is about the biggest you will get in.

It's 9.5mm. It'll fit, I'll just grind the top of the hdd down a bit. :p

EDIT: Looking for a source for the HDD depth now, but no luck so far. :(

I measured it when I had one, I was going to put a bigger drive in, but ended up getting rid of it in preference of a proper laptop.

Just had a word with one of the lads at work, he reckons that the standard thicknesses are 9.5mm and 12.5mm? If that's the case, then it should fit.

Quote from here:

Of all netbook computers available today, 90 percent feature 9.5mm 2.5-inch laptop drives because solid state and 1.8-inch hard drives are largely cost-prohibitive for this market.

That article was written in 2009. :p

If the two standard thicknesses are 9.5mm and 12.5mm, and back when the NC10 was one of the most popular netbooks 90% of them used 9.5mm thick ones, and this one is 9.5mm thick, then it should fit surely? Just drop straight in in place of the 160gb?

Does anyone know the exact model of the standard NC10 HDD? Can't find it out anywhere.

Well I will do anyway, but I'd rather find out some info first seeing as the earliest I can strip it will be one evening next week.
