Hi All, intending to do a bit of an upgrade to my current Netgear DG834G 54Mbps to one of the items listed below. Was wondering if anyone has treaded this path before and could give me some feedback on them pls?? Or indeed other tasty router options I may have missed?

Just wanting to maximize speed and download capabilities.....

Maximise speed of what, and downloading via what service?

Depending on how you use your home network and what internet service you use a new router may not make any difference.

Currently running at 3773mbps with an assumed potential of 6Mbps+ with fast.co.uk...need more Steam downloadability and online gaming and generally want to improve the much rumoured ADSL/2+2 (24Mbps) capability in the not too distant future. Currently feel a tad stifled on the internet connection and also aim to fit one of those i-plate thingies as I am showing constant 18db noise on the line......

802.11n won't make any difference to how fast your internet connection is and ADSL2+ depends on it being supported at the other end (and if you're only getting 3.5Mbps, you probably won't see much improvement anyway).
The DG834G gives stats for the ADSL connection. Post those.

so in a nutshell I may well not improve my internet connection speed and downloadability by merely upgrading the DG834G (which I still rate highly incidentally) for something more in the 108/270mbps league? As I mentioned earlier I checked the line stats with Fast.co.uk soon after I transferred to their service and noted the high db reading, however they told me that despite it being high it would not adversely effect my overall connection. I need to fit the i-plate and check the dsl filters when I get back home after this business trip, will also post the stats then.

Thought it might be interesting to discuss the pro's and cons but I get the feeling by the initial feedback that I may not realise an improvement if I do replace my current router.....

The GT version has a Broadcom chipset, this can enable you to raise/lower your line snr to achieve higher line speeds
Might be worth a shot getting one fron somewhere cheep, maybe a `sky reflashed one` to try if you get no joy with your current router(unless your router has the Broadcom chipset already)

No (though I don't know what "downloadability" is meant to mean). You'll only make the wireless side faster.

Ah ha....now it makes sense re the wireless speed increase.

As I and others in my house (1 x ethernet cable desktop, 1 x wireless pci desktop, 3 x wireless laptops) tend to download huge files (Uni and Steam based content) downloadability was but a canned phrase to reflect aspirations of faster download capability.....
