Currently have a Gefore 1080 Ti and I'm looking for a cost effective upgrade to play Call If Duty MW3/WZ. I plan on giving my existing GPU to my son so I would like to have a replacement. I'm mainly a general user but COD is my thing so Ray Tracing isn't a massive requirement as online games don't tend to get much value from it. I have a 2560x1440 gaming display running at 165hz.

Looking to spend between £300-£450 and have a 850W PSU. Any recommendations appreciated.

Thanks

With your budget to get a meaningful upgrade you are likely going to have to look at second hand, as the only card near your budget that delivers a decent increase would be the Radeon 7700XT

I personally wouldn't consider anything less than a 3070 as a decent upgrade - the 1080Ti is still a decent card and offers almost identical performance to the current 4060 that is £300.

Was in the same boat as you OP a few months back, upgraded from a 1080ti to a 4070ti and it's been fantastic. Would suggest saving a little longer and get a 4070ti :)

good luck finding a 4070ti for £450
Nvidia deliberately inserting a price inflated 16GB version of 4060ti and the 4070 there to stop that from happening :D

If not for Nvidia's greed inflated the pricing of the cards this gen hugely, the 4070ti (a 4060ti in reality) at £450 is at where the price it should be, as it is actuality a same tier chip as the 3060ti.

I now have a boost of cash so looking to now upgrade. Wondering if the RTX4060ti is still the way to go? I have extra money so can go up to £600-£700 if the longevity of the card is right.

Is NVidia the way or AMD?

Certainly not a 4060 Ti. It's a massively overpriced card and not a worthwhile upgrade from a 1080 Ti in my opinion. If you're now willing to spend a bit more, the 7900 GRE or 4070 Super would be better options and a much bigger upgrade. The former is generally a little cheaper. I'd take a look at this and decide which one suits you better:
