Upgrading PC and not sure on OS

Hi,

I'm about to fork out around £500 for a large upgrade on my current system and I don't know what OS to use. After asking for suggestions the opinion seems to be split between Window's 7 & 8.

I like a tablet style setup, and love my iPad, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using it on a PC with a mouse!?!?!?

Are there any other benefits of the more modern 8 over the 7 or is it mainly style and look rather than substance?

My PC is mainly used for surfing, watching movies and playing games.

I only really upgrade my kit once every three or four years, so I don't really want to get something now with a view to upgrading it again in six months or so.

I'll try and get down to PC world in the next few days.

I'm using Vista currently so I guess you'd all tell me that anything would be considered an upgrade from this

In terms of memory usage and other measurable factors, does 8 trump 7?

I understand that Vista is very wasteful.

I'll give the evaluation a go, but I think my order is likely to include a Win8 in there

On a seperate note.... what are the apps like? I mean are they as useful as they are on the apple kit?
