Hey guys and gals, I am new here, recommended by a friend. I am afraid I am a bit of a tecchy newbie when it comes to hardware, so I was hoping for a bit of help.
I bought my current computer a couple of years ago, and was thinking of upgrading to an i7 processor and transferring my old bits to a family members computer. (Motherboard, RAM, Processor etc.) They can buy all the other parts, and case etc so that is not part of my query.
Current PC:
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 (4 X 2.40GHz) 1066MHz FSB/8MB L2 Cache
Memory (RAM)
4096 MB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (4x1GB)
Motherboard
ASUS® P5N32-E SLI+: Quad-core CPU Ready, NVIDIA® Dual X16 SLI
Memory - 1st Hard Disk
74GB WD Raptor® SATA 16MB CACHE (10000rpm)
2nd Hard Disk
1000GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 32MB CACHE (7200rpm)
CD/DVD Drive
20x Dual Layer LightScribe DVD Writer ±R/±RW/RAM
Sound Card
Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Xtreme Audio 7.1: £28
Memory Card Reader
INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (READS XD, MS, CF, SD, etc)
Case
Stylish Silver/Black Sigma case + 2 front USB
Power Supply & Case Cooling
900W Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan
Processor Cooling
ASUS SILENT KNIGHT II PURE COPPER ULTRA COOLER
I was having a look at some of the options available to me, and I noticed that Overclockers did an interesting set of motherboard, processor (overclocked) and RAM. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-003-OB I was hoping to get a few opinions on this set on whether people think it is worth it or if I should have a go at buying the bits seperatley and overclocking things myself? I am interested to hear any other suggestions for alternatives as well.
I would also be really grateful if there are any obvious incompatibilities I might not be aware of.
Thanks.
