Looking to run Dual x1900`s in the near future on a dell 24". I am stuck on what processor to get.
Is the FX-57 worth all the money or will a mildly clocked Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 90nm do/get the same results ?

I am not particularly interested in dual core just yet.

Cheers

All the San diego single core chips are the same but clocked less, the more you pay for a chip the better the yield of the core so chances are it will clock further, but if you just want FX57 speeds dont buy a fx57, buy something like a san diego 3700+ then overclock that to fx57 levels, it should come close/level it or beat it slightly, either way your saving yourself a packet.

yep, 3800+ X2 for dual core (which would be the best investment) 3700+ San Diego for single core :) maybe consider an Arctic cooler to enable some beastly overclocking :)

Another vote for the x2 3800+. Some of the newest steppings seems to hit 2.8-3.0ghz with ease. So if you're lucky with the stepping you'll get yourself a cracking good cpu. Mine seems to be hitting just over 2.5ghz at stock Vcore, and [email protected]. My mobo don't go higher :(

Ideally the Opteron UP 170 Dual Core San Diego 2.0GHz 2MB Cache.

Or if on a smaller budget the Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+.

Thats how i see it. :)
